The marina and the people are very nice and the surrounding island is pretty with nice shops a grocery store and hardware store near by.

However, getting into the marina is a little unnerving due to the shallow water approaching the marina. Additionally, we ended up here on a night when there was a very strong north wind. The waves that hit our boat were pretty brutal. We were told they had a sea wall at one time, but it was destroyed by a storm.

I did make it in here without any issues and it was easier going back out as I had a track to follow. A smaller boat with a smaller draft would enjoy this stop assuming there was no bad weather.

I spent time as crew member/visitor of the Rubicon. Upon arrival, the mile markers could definitely use some updating and improvements. The finger piers are entirely too short at least where we were directed to moor for a 44 ft m/y. Half of the crew including myself were unable to physically leave the boat due to this which caused great concern in case of an emergency situation. Also, our power went out early in the night. Our Captain contacted "Spooky" to report the problem but he did NOT return our call. We could not run generator bc we were too close to other vessels to risk it. It was miserable experience! I don't recommend this marina. No apologies or any contact made on their behalf. Zack the deck hand was great. Upon arrival, he was very friendly and helpful. We also called ahead and made a reservation beforehand and still had a terrible experience.

"Spooky" the Harbor Master was helpful in advising us about the approach to the marina. Call when leaving the ICW. The private markers are scattered, and they are in need of new red and green paint. We were disappointed that despite making a reservation a week ahead, the marina seemed surprised that we were arriving. They "found" a slip for me between two charter boats. Mooring was a challenge because there were no cleats, just poles. The fixed finger pier was only 10 feet long, so half my crew was unable physically unable to disembark during our stay. Dockhand Zack was very helpful when it came to figuring out the best line securing configuration and hooking up power. The most disturbing part of our visit was when we lost power at about 9pm. I am not an electrician, but I think the dock power box was rated for 30amps, and had a 50amp plug installed. Spooky answered his cell phone when I called, but was unable to contact the marina owner, so no after-hours service was available to come to the marina to assist with our power situation. We sweated all night and prayed our refrigerated food would not spoil as I was not about to run the generator in the tight slips. Finding an anchorage in the dark on a hot, windy night was not a safe option. We departed at daybreak and didn't look back. No Boat US or other discounts were offered to us. No apologies, either.

Harbor master was very helpful in helping us navigate the partly marked channel coming in from the west and also leaving the next day headed to Mobile Bay. If you have never been here before, I wouldn’t try to enter from the west without local help. The best advice leaving was to hug the shore line markers and don’t get outside of the markers. We stayed on the fuel dock which was quiet. We wish we had planned on staying longer as the island shut down for coronavirus concerns a few day later.
