Very protected marina. Wide fairways and calm waters make docking easy. You are on your own with lines. LaFonds is an excellent fish market with great smoked fish and lots of good choices. Other boaters are very friendly. Lots of great places to walk the dog at the marina and around the surrounding area including a nice park. A very quiet marina.

Salmon Harbor Marina was our landing spot for the Lake Michigan transit. Approach was through the outer harbor and a short channel to the right hand turn for the marina. We carried over 12 feet of water all the way up to the marina and had better than 10 feet in the slip. The floating docks were in good shape and the slips and fairways were comfortably wide. 30/50 amp Power and water were no problem. There was no current in the marina basin and wind/wave protection was excellent. There are bathrooms and showers as well as a lounge and laundry We did not get a chance to check them out. Wi-Fi is available but weak at the end of the dock where we were. We had difficulty getting connected and when we finally did connect, speeds were just acceptable. Cellular coverage for AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile were good. The marina is pet-friendly and, although the marina is open, there was very little dock traffic. The marina staff was responsive to our needs but left us to handle our own lines at the dock. Fortunately other wiling boaters lent a hand.

The marina is a full service marina that offers fuel, service, haul-outs, fishing chargers, and is part of a larger enterprise that offers RV camping as well. The marina is at the corner of the town and there was one restaurant within walking distance. The nearest grocery store is over a mile and a half from the marina but Lafond's Fish Market is a short walk to the other side of the harbor. It has a reputation for really good smoked fish.
