FL Inlet Caution: Bakers Haulover (North Miami Beach)

  • Date Reported: Jun 2, 2022
  • Reporter: Jani Parker
  • Source: Waterway Guide Staff
  • Description:

Overview: Strictly a fair-weather inlet for cruising vessels due to problems with continual ICW shoaling. Mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution while transiting the area. Popular and busy with local recreational fishing boats.

Approach: Bakers Haulover Inlet Jetty Light (on south jetty) is at N 25° 53.950'/W 080° 07.231'.

Navigation: Use NOAA Chart 11467. There are no markers, other than a light on the south side of the inlet and once you have turned north, deep water is close to the shore on your port side. Inlet is spanned by the Bakers Haulover Inlet Bridge with 32-foot fixed vertical clearance.

Cautions & Hazards: Jetties are short here and currents are strong (2.0 to 3.0 knots). The inlet can become especially nasty when wind and current oppose. Cruisers would be wise to forgo this inlet in favor of Miami’s Government Cut (8 nm to the south) or Port Everglades Inlet (11.5 nm to the north).

ICW Connection: Proceed due east into the inlet, turning south once inside to head for the ICW Mile 1080.

  • Lat / Lon: N 25° 54.007' / W 080° 07.346'
