FL: St Augustine Inlet - Matanzas River/ATON/Advanced Notice of Change
- Date Reported: Mar 24, 2025
- Reporter: Ted Stehle
- Source: USCG District 7
- Description:
DESCRIPTION: ATON/Advanced Notice of Change From: 2024-11-18 To: 2025-05-17 Location: 29.90535° N / 81.29553° W Aid Name: Matanzas River Light 1 LLNR: 39035 Action: CHANGE Action Type Change Aid Subtype The following change has been approved to the Aid to Navigation system in the Matanzas River. Matanzas River Light 1 (LLNR 39035) will permanently be changed to Matanzas River Lighted Buoy 1 (LLNR 39035). Matanzas River Light 1 has been destroyed on a few occasions over the last 10 years and it is currently being advertised as destroyed since 2020. In addition, the water depth at its assigned position is 21 feet making it more difficult for a CG asset to spud and maintain position to rebuild the aid safely. Converting the light to a floating aid will allow for a timelier response and consistent maintenance in the event the aid becomes discrepant. Therefore, this change will provide mariners a more reliable signal while approaching the Matanzas River Channel entrance from the St. Augustine Inlet and while exiting the channel. - Lat / Lon: N 29° 54.321' / W 081° 17.732'
