DESCRIPTION: General/Bridges From: 2025-03-05 To: 2025-07-26 Location: 40.18614° N / 74.02351° W Bridge Name: 71 State Route Bridge The New Jersey Department of Transportation, who owns and operates the New Jersey (Route 71) Shark River Bridge, over Shark River, mile 0.8, at Belmar, NJ, will be performing bridge maintenance to replace the bridge fendering system from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, from April 7, 2025, through July 25, 2025. To facilitate bridge work, the bridge will be maintained in the closed-to-navigation position and the horizontal clearance will be reduced to approximately 25 feet from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, from April 7, 2025, through July 25, 2025. During the closure, the bridge will open-to-navigation from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., from April 7, 2025, through May 14, 2025, and from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon and from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., from May 15, 2025, through July 25, 2025. Vessels able to safely transit through the bridge in the closed-to-navigation position with the reduced horizontal clearance may do so at any time. Work crews and barges will be working in and around the vicinity of the bridge and the navigation channel and will move outside the navigation channel for scheduled bridge openings. At all other times the bridge will operate in accordance with 33 CFR 117.75. The on-site work team may be contacted via VHF-FM channel 13 or cell phone at (732) 618-4857.
