- Date Reported: Nov 27, 2024
- Reporter: Ted Stehle
- Source: CG 5th District LNM 0548/24
- Description:
All mariners please be advised that the Dredge MURDEN, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will be performing maintenance dredging of the navigational channel in Shark River Inlet beginning on or about December 28, 2024, and continue until January 5, 2025. Dredging operations will be conducted in the channel, approximately 500 feet seaward of Shark River Inlet South Breakwater Light 1 (Light List# 872), which is located on the south jetty, and ending approximately 150 feet landward of Shark River Inlet North Breakwater Light 2 (Light List# 873), which is located on the north jetty. The dredged sand will be placed north of the second rock groin, approximately 1,600 feet north of the Shark River Inlet North Breakwater Light 2 in 14 feet of water to create a temporary near shore, 2-foot to 4-foot-high underwater berm. The dredge will be monitoring VHF radio channels 13 and 16. Mariners are requested to use extreme caution when transiting the area at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake.
