- Date Reported: Nov 20, 2024
- Reporter: Ted Stehle
- Source: CG 9th District LNM 0947/24
- Description:
From December 1, 2024, through March 31, 2025, the Lafayette Street Bridge at Mile 6.78, over the Saginaw River will be secured to masted navigation. Vessels able to pass under the bridge without an opening may do so at any time. Additionally, starting on October 1, 2024, six barges 80x100-foot or smaller, will be working under the bridge, and they will move if a 2-hour advance notice is provided by calling 608-425-0171. From December 15, 2024, through November 30, 2025, a cofferdam will be installed that measures approximately 60-feet by 95-feet, that reduces the navigation channel by 2-feet on either side leaving approximately 146-foot channel available for vessels. The red pier lights will be moved to the cofferdam sides to show the temporary reduction in horizontal clearance. From November 4, 2024, through November 15, 2028, trestles will be installed extending outward from shore approximately 50-feet. Flashing yellow lights will warn mariners of the trestle's location. From During the winter, the ice will be degraded due to the movement of barges and the ice under the bridge should be considered unsafe for pedestrians or vehicles.
