TX: Houston Ship Channel, Dredge Operation
- Date Reported: Sep 25, 2024
- Reporter: Ted Stehle
- Source: CG 8th District (Gulf) LNM 08g39/24
- Description:
Continuing until March 20, 2025, the Dredge GENERAL ARNOLD will be conducting dredging operations in the Houston Ship Channel, between Houston Ship Channel Light 75 (LLNR-24385) and Houston Ship Channel Light 92 (LLNR-24600). Operations will be conducted 24-hours a day, 7- days a week. On-scene equipment will include a booster barge, submerged pipeline and floating pipeline. An anchor buoy extends from the dredge into the channel by approximately 75 ft. The U.S. Coast Guard VTS Houston-Galveston has closed the inbound barge lane near the dredge and directs no meeting or overtaking of ships in the area and wake/surge considerations when within 0.5 nautical mile of the dredge. Vessels are requested to coordinate passing arrangements at least 30-minutes in advance. The dredge will monitor VHF-FM Channels 13, 71 and 74, or can be contacted at (409) 407-5875. Mariners are urged to proceed with caution after passing arrangements have been made.
