CT: New London Harbor, Dredging

On or about September 25th, 2024, Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting Company, LLC will begin mobilizing equipment into New London Harbor Connecticut for dredging work contracted by General Dynamics Electric Boat. Dredging for the project is expected to begin on or about October 1st, 2024. Dredging operations will occur adjacent to Electric Boat's South Yard in Groton, CT, in position 41-20-19.48N, 072-4-54.56W. The dredging template is east of the Federal Navigation Channel in the Thames River. Equipment for the project will include the following: "DALE PY A TT" clamshell dredge, "AF MARRESE" crane barge, 3-4 Seminole style material hopper barges, "MERC" and "KURT" dump scows, "CAPE ELIZABETH" survey/crew vessel, and associated tugboats. Tugboats on the project will be transporting material hopper barges from New London Harbor in Groton, CT to Upper Bay in Jersey City, NJ. In addition, tugboats will also be transporting material dump scows from the Groton, CT project site to the Eastern Long Island Sound Disposal Site. A mooring will be placed in New London Harbor Anchorage A and or Anchorage B. This will be used to stage barges throughout the life of the project. arine.rs are urged to transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and proceed with caution past the dredging site. The dredge(s) will operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The work is scheduled to be completed on or about January 31, 2025. Mariners are urged to use extreme caution and transit the area at their slowest safe speed to create minimum wake after passing arrangements have been made.
