Superior Construction Company Southeast, Llc has been contracted by the bridge owner, FDOT, to replace the SR 44 / Whitehair Bridge, across the St. Johns River, mile 146.0, near Deland, FL. The project consists of replacing the bascule bridge with a high-level fixed bridge immediately south of the existing bridge. The bascule bridge will remain operational during construction. The new fixed vertical clearance is 45.6 feet above normal high water and the horizontal clearance will be 115 feet between the fenders. The contractor will have floating construction equipment, small work platforms and support vessels, in and around the bridge structure. All in-water equipment will be properly lighted. All boaters are advised to transit the area with caution and at a slow speed.
