Noteworthy:

1.) The Roanoke River Delta: North Carolina's Amazon River with over 50 miles of shoreline within 5 miles of Plymouth.

2.) Museums: Four small museums on Water St. parallel to the waterfront: maritime museum, wildlife museum, black bear museum and history museum.

3.) History: The Civil War Battle of Plymouth and the debut of the most successful ironclad of the Civil War. The CSS Albemarle twice defeated the Union Navy.  It was subsequently destroyed in the most daring commando raid of the Civil War five months after its debut.

4. Black Bears: Home of the award-winning NC Black Bear Festival and the largest black bears on the planet.
