Vessel Type: Power
LOA: 47'
Draft: 4.0'Navionics App & charts state that there is a shallow area available to.anchor with the lock masters permission on the North side of the channel. This area has quickly changing depths with high spots under 2 feet surrounded by areas of 5 plus feet. More like a maze than an open area.

Vessel Type: Power

Draft: 4.0'We came thru the Algiers Lock on Christmas morning because the Harvey Lock was out of service. We arrived the same time as a west bound tow and an east bound tow. The lock master put the fellow west bound tow in the lock and then allowed us to lock thru with the tow pushing only one barge. We exited lock and made way around the east bound tow.

Total time from leaving Pontchartrain Landing to exiting Algiers Lock was two hours. Glad there was not much traffic out on a holiday weekend.

Vessel Type: Power
LOA: 690'
Draft: 11.0'The Canal Traffic will work on Channel 13 VHF. The Locks work Channel 14 VHF. The River works 67 for passing and entering and also Channel 16, both VHF. It is very important if the water is high to take in account the current will set the vessel. This is especially true of a towing vessel. By the time you get turned Northbound you will likely be South of the Locks. This requires caution and a working radar at night. It is advisable to dog down doors on the Port side if the River is above the 10 ft. gauge.

Vessel Type: Sail
LOA: 40'
Draft: 5.0'When transiting these locks, pay close attention to the curfew times of the bridges. It's very easy to get "trapped" on one end or the other. And we found that no one will even respond to you on VHF during these times. And don't forget to check in with Traffic when you enter the river.
