Poughkeepsie, NY

Poughkeepsie was the temporary capital of New York in 1777 and is home to Vassar College, one of the so-called “Seven Sisters” colleges (now co-ed). Historic Hyde Park, the birthplace of Franklin D. Roosevelt, is a short drive away. The house is open for tours (800-337-8474). Also located in Hyde Park on the Hudson River is the Culinary Institute of America.
