South Caicos, Turks & Caicos Islands
Along with Grand Turk and Salt Cay, South Caicos was once a salt-producing island. It has miles of low dividing walls, gates, windmills and a unique Boiling Hole. The remains of the salt works are best accessed from the Cockburn Town area and it’s possible to walk along the top of the walls out to the remains of windmills and other features. Not only was the island rich with salt, it also had the finest and largest natural harbor right on the edge of the Turks Island Passage.
