- Description:
It is not often there is a "new" anchorage in The Bahamas but due to Dorian reconstruction the previously inaccessible eastern half of White Sound has been opened up. The area was previously blocked to most vessels by a hard nearly drying bar that separated the two halves of the sound. The reason the bar was removed was to create an access to a new public ramp for Green Turtle that will facilitate the barge transport of heavy vehicles to Green Turtle Cay.
The holding in this part of the harbour is soft due to heavy grass, so it is important to ensure your anchor is well set. It is also important to not block access to the ramp so remain well south of the entrance to this part of the sound. In all but the heaviest conditions however, there is excellent protection from the wind and little current or wave action.
