- Description:
It is tricky to enter, but the anchorage at Staniard Creek is a wonderful choice for riding out a cold front at anchor in North Andros for vessels drawing less than 6’. While there is sufficient depth for vessels up to 7’ there is only a very small area of deeper water and vessels at the draft limit may find themselves swinging into shoals at low tide. For vessels that fit into the creek there is very good holding and 360° protection from the wind.
In the event inclement weather conditions prevent leaving the anchorage, there are well-protected mangrove-lined channels leading off the anchorage that can provide hours of exploration by dinghy and kayak. It is also possible to dinghy south of the anchorage to Staniard Creek Settlement where there is a small grocery store and a snack bar.
