- Description:
The West Pimlicos are a grouping of small cays and rocks that are essentially in the middle of nowhere. Although they are only a little over a mile away from the much larger Darby Island, the distance can seem much larger because vessels drawing more than 5.5’ feet should wait until within 2 hours of high tide, and preferably with good light before setting across the sand bank towards Darby Island. If your timing is off it could take a whole day to cover the short distance. In settled conditions it is possible to anchor for the night in relative comfort as the shallow waters of the area remain relatively flat even in winds approaching 20 knots. There are also small beaches on some of the cays that will be attractive for pet owners.
