Big Farmer's South
- Location: Southern Exumas
- Lat / Lon: N 23° 55.899' / W 076° 18.012'
- Depth: 6'-8'
- Tide: 2.5'-3.0'
- Description:
Tucked into a bay at the south tip of Big Farmers Cay this is a delightful anchorage for vessels drawing less than 6’. In prevailing conditions there is good protection from easterly winds however it is open in all other directions. It is less than 2nm from the inner harbour at Farmer’s Cay so when it is busy in the harbour the anchorage is a viable alternative to struggling to find space to anchor.
The holding is good and there are a few small patch reefs that can provide some interesting snorkeling especially for young children or not strong swimmers. The one detraction for this anchorage is that only vessels drawing less than 5’ can continue southbound at high tide because there is a sandbar with a controlling depth of 2.5’ that blocks access to Galliot Cut which is less than a mile away. For a deeper draft vessel to continue south you have to back track about a mile towards Little Farmers Cay to get around the bar.
