Charles Island
- Location: North Eleuthera
- Lat / Lon: N 25° 32.259' / W 076° 44.409'
- Depth: 7'-10'
- Tide: 2.0'-2.5'
- Description:
The anchorage is exposed from all directions however in winds below 15 knots there is sufficient protection from nearby land and the surrounding shallow water to anchor in relative calm. Holding is good in clear sand.
It is a good spot to depart from for the Devils Backbone as it allows a good view of the ferry route between Spanish Wells and the Mainland which means that pulling the anchor as the ferry crosses the channel will provide at least 15 minutes to cross the ferry route. Anybody who has crossed the ferry route will attest that the ferry drivers do not slow or deviate for anybody!
