- Description:
The south anchorage at Snake Cay is much more exposed to the prevailing elements than the north anchorage, therefore is recommended only for settled conditions. However, it is deeper than the north anchorage and there is more swinging room. The best holding is found 200 yards south of the concrete seawall of Snake Cay in 10’ of water. The farther south you go the better the holding as the current rushing out of Snake Cay inlet has scoured the sand from the area.
Snake Cay Inlet is a great spot for strong swimmers to spearfish when the conditions out on the reef are too rough for comfort. The inlet is over 25’ deep and it is common to find schools of large jacks and mutton snappers swimming in the strong current, which can reach 4 knots at its peak.
