Shackleford Banks West
- Location: Beaufort Inlet
- Lat / Lon: N 34° 41.284' / W 076° 38.717'
- Depth: 10+
- Tide: 3
- Description:
Anchor west of the red buoy near the Shackleford Banks dock (which is not for public use). The water is very deep at the buoy but gets shallow quickly east of the dock. There are a lot of small fishing boats that come to this area so stay west of them and east of the ferry landing, which is marked with a sign. Sheltered from the south, somewhat sheltered from east and west. This is not an easy anchorage to get to; watch the depths carefully and look for breakers when coming out of the channel from Beaufort. The benefit: quiet, dark skies, and easy dinghy access to miles of beach with wild horses. There is a bathroom on shore near the dock.
