Cathead Bay
- Location: Lake Michigan
- Lat / Lon: N 45° 10.786' / W 085° 35.458'
- Depth: 10 - 15 feet
- Description:
Several miles of sandy beach at the end of the Leelanau Peninsula. Quiet. A few houses on the north and south end but state land in the middle. Hard to find a nicer beach. Depths as marked on our charts, actually a little deeper because the lake is above the mean level. Good in SW to NE winds. Wide open to the North and West. We got off a bumpy Lake Michigan with SW winds and it was nice and calm in the bay. Stayed the night. Anchor in the middle off the state land in 15' of water and you should have plenty of swing room to the shore. You can dinghy in to the beach. It's a half mile to a parking lot through the woods and then several miles into Northport. Go here if you want some quiet seclusion. If the wind is right there's not a better anchorage. Sandy bottom. Hooked first try.
