Athol Island (South)
- Location: New Providence
- Lat / Lon: N 25° 04.567' / W 077° 16.332'
- Depth: 8'-12'
- Tide: 2.0'-2.5'
- Description:
The south side of Athol Island is well protected from the west through the north and is a surprisingly good spot to ride out a cold front despite feeling very exposed to the east and south. In prevailing easterlies the anchorage will develop a swell even in lighter winds as waves bounce off the rocky shores. The holding is very good in deep sand provided care is taken to avoid the ridges of grass. There is a small beach that is a favorite of the local tour boat captains who are looking for an accessible beach close to the harbor. On the weekends it can be very busy.
Holding:

Excellent holding in sand with S winds of 20+ pushing us within 80 feet of the coral shoreline. Winds shifted several hours later to WNW 20+ and we paralleled the two shorelines. Expect wakes from local water sports boats as they bring snorkelers here. B
