Ohio River - Mile 973
- Location: Ohio River
- Mile Marker: 973.0
- Lat / Lon: N 37° 04.948' / W 089° 08.774'
- Depth: 12
- Description:
We anchored just below the old submerged dike in 12 feet of water. Another trawler our size and a slightly larger cruiser yacht shared the anchorage. There was some chop in the water due to the long fetch with a south-southwest wind at 10 MPH but the current was strong enough to keep is pointing directly upstream all night. We used 5:1 scope and our 44 lb Rocna bit quickly, didn't budge all night, and came up clean (due to sandy mud) the next morning. Mild wakes from the barges passing upstream but nothing rough. Took the dinghy to a sandy beach for a short walk, it's well suited for pets. This is a good stop as it left us only 7 miles to the Olmsted Lock & Dam so it was easy to time our arrival there.
