Big Majors Spot

  • Location: Exumas
  • Lat / Lon: N 24° 11.320' / W 076° 27.536'
  • Depth: 7'-12'
  • Tide: 2.5'-3.0'
  • Description:

Big Majors anchorage is a wide bay that is formed by the mass of Big Majors Spot Cay and the Fowl Cay Resort. The holding is excellent and there is very good protection from north through south, although the anchorage will become progressively more rolly as the winds clock past SE. In winds under 20 knots, however, conditions are acceptable to most tastes. Vessels have even ridden out cold front passages in this anchorage, however one should not expect flat calm conditions under those circumstances. The Pig Beach is the southern most of three beaches visible from the anchorage.

Fowl Cay is a private island and going ashore is discouraged. It is home to the Fowl Cay Resort which welcomes boaters to join them for dinner by prior reservation. Their dining room is noted for its Table d-hote offerings which are ideal for celebrations and special occasions. Call them on VHF channel 16 to make reservations.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
