- Description:
Just follow the well marked channel on the way in, no hazards. The harbor is famous as a summer boating Mecca. It is all but impossible to get a mooring, I just drop the anchor after turning to port on the way in by G11 and look for 15 to 25 ft of water. You must have confidence in your ground tackle to anchor, some boats will drag in a summer thunderstorm. Make sure you have similar scope out since you may do a 360 with a storm. You may be forced to anchor closer than you like, but that's Block Island.
However, the view of the surrounding boats is staggering. A trip to land provides entertainment of all types. Restaurants and drinking pubs abound as well as amble shopping in old town. It's crowded for sure but it's a great escape to cool breezes during a hot northeast summer.
