North Creek - Grand Turk
- Location: Turks
- Lat / Lon: N 21° 29.610' / W 071° 08.360'
- Depth: 5-10 Feet
- Description: Don't be fooled by the fact that the marine police have their base on the western side, about halfway down, with a clutch of boats clustered around their dock that extends into the deeper water. The median line is as far as you want to go toward the western side. The eastern side is a far better choice. It is protected from the prevailing wind by the limestone ridge that runs northward to Northeast Point. "¢ You must enter before the onset of severe weather. Anticipate! Even the swell from a storm in the southern Bahamas can make the entry impassable. Don't wait for the sky to tell you that bad weather is coming your way. If the wind and set are already northerly, forget it! "¢ Go in only at slack high water. (Inside North Creek the highs and lows run about 20 minutes after ocean times.) "¢ Watch out for the coral. You should have enough water at high tide but use your eyes. Even after the blasting, there may still be rogue heads out there. "¢ Be prepared for a longer stay than you might expect. You cannot exit until the ocean has settled down. This may be as long as two to three days after a storm has passed.
