- Description:
Orange Creek is located 2.5 nm north of Arthur’s Town. While the creek itself is too shallow for cruising vessels, it does permit easy access for a dinghy to reach Curries Grocery Store which is a well-stocked market on the north end of the island. The anchorage also provides some shelter from the north and east, however in strong winds a wrap around swell will permeate into the anchorage causing uncomfortable rolling. The anchorage is not a great candidate for riding out bad weather. Bennett’s Harbour is a better choice. The holding, however, is excellent in clear sand. Once anchored the grocery store is next door to the church which is visible from the anchorage. Enter the creek and go about 150 yds past the church to a section of seawall that is equipped with cleats for the local fishing boats to use. Be prepared to use a stern anchor for your dinghy. Alternatively there is a small patch of beach directly in front of the grocery store that is only visible at low tide.
