Sand Cay

  • Location: Northern Exuma
  • Lat / Lon: N 24° 20.421' / W 076° 35.481'
  • Depth: 9'-12'
  • Tide: 2.5'-3.0'
  • Description:

Sand Cay HP is identified as such to distinguish it from the multitudes of Sand and Sandy Cays in The Bahamas. It too is a private cay, but unlike the other private cays the owners will permit boaters to go ashore.  The cay itself is barely 100 sq yds which is small even by Bahamas standards, but it is surrounded by a drying bank that doubles as a beach at low tide, so it appears much larger. The cay is a favorite stop for large charter yachts who can approach very closely from the deep waters of Halls Pond Cut.  For those who want to stretch their legs Sand Cay is one of the few places that are available between Cambridge Cay and Warderick Wells. In settled conditions it is possible to spend the night, however there are better alternatives for an over night stop such as Halls Pond North and even Warderick Wells.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
