- Description:
What is normally referred to as Allen Cay is a group of three small cays that form an enclosed lagoon that offers excellent protection and fair to good holding. Two of these cays, Southwest Allen and Leaf Cay have populations of protected iguanas that roam freely on the beaches and amongst the sea grapes and mangroves. In settled weather the anchorage will be busy with vessels of all shapes and sizes coming to see the iguanas. In inclement weather the anchorage can also be very busy as the inner lagoon offers some of the best protection in the area. The problem arises when too many boats try to fill too small a space and tempers start to flare as swinging circles encroach on others.
