- Description:
Clifton Bay is a favorite spot for boaters passing to and from the Exumas but do not want to enter Nassau Harbour.
There is good protection from the northeast through southeast, but it is wide open to the west. When the winds are out of the south through north a swell will penetrate the anchorage that will be minimal at 15 knots but when it approaches 20 knots it will be uncomfortable. Vessels have ridden out cold fronts by anchoring close to the beach on the north side but very few of those vessels will describe Clifton Bay as an ideal spot for heavy weather. The saving grace for this anchorage is that the holding is excellent in clear sand. There are bands of grass in the northeast corner of the bay, but they will only affect vessels drawing 4’ or less looking to maximize protection.
